Art Night Out
About the Workshop:
Mandalas are found among the most ancient art forms created by human beings. The word "mandala" is from the classical Indian language of Sanskrit loosely translated to mean "circle". Describing both material and non-material realities, the mandala appears in all aspects of life: the celestial circles we call earth, sun, and moon, as well as conceptual circles of friends, family, and community. In this one-night course, students will learn the basics of drawing mandalas through symmetry, diagrams, and tool use to be able to confidently draw mandalas in whichever amount of detail they choose. People from all walks of life are encouraged to come try this art form that is a beautifully integrated view of the world and life itself.
About the Instructor:
Courtney Maye is a painter and visual artist by trade. Since moving to Green Bay in 2012 from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, she has since shown her work at the ARTgarage and at various art events and markets throughout the State. In her drawings and paintings, Courtney’s subject matter often includes bright colors, nature, and the human body. She feels that flowers, trees, and all types of foliage bring a sense of softness to the human presence – which she believes is something identifiable within all of us. She understands that her ideas being brought to fruition through art is a way of the universe experiencing itself – something deeply rooted in the history and symbolism of mandalas, as well.
