Housed in the old cannery building on Main Street, located in downtown Green Bay's Arts District, our studios are packed with history, filled with natural light, and equipped with all of the tools and materials needed for each lesson! In these studios, young artists engage in the creative process from start to finish through new and unique lessons developed by our instructors in collaboration with The Art Garage staff. On the final day of class (Friday), our young artists will share the week’s work with family and friends in a causal "showcase". Each week, an instructor will also choose one student's final project to be in our August Exhibition. On the opening day of this exhibition, July 30th from 5pm-7pm, we invite family and friends to join us in The Art Garage gallery, located at 1400 Cedar Street, for an Artist Reception featuring these youth artists along with complimentary food and drinks, live youth performances, and more! While our Summer Art Workshop program explores a range of media and artistic skills, the goal of our workshops is to let children discover various ways to use their imagination and to ultimately turn something ordinary into extraordinary!
- Workshops are held Monday through Friday for 1 week straight.
- Morning youth workshops run from 9:00am-12:00pm.
- Afternoon youth workshop run from 1:00pm-4:00pm.
- Free childcare is provided during 12:00pm-1:00pm for students enrolled in both morning and afternoon session.
On the first day, registration will be held outdoors, under the walkway, located to the east of our gallery entrance. Please park near 1400 Cedar Street and follow signs. Registration, on the first day of each workshop, will consist of a short check-in process including distributing parents the proper student release card to confirm easy, safe pick-up for the rest of the week. Student participants will also be handed a tote bag with all supplies required for the registered workshop. After completion of registration, students will be taken to the proper classroom by an Art Garage staff/volunteer member. Drop- off for the following days will be located at 1429 Main Street and a greeter will guide students to the correct classroom. As students enter the attended workshop area, all name tags will be set on the assigned workshop table for students to put on when they arrive. Students can find their table, sit down, and wait for their workshop to begin.
In the Classroom:
Being housed in a large facility, workshop participants will be able to practice social distancing as each student will be placed at their own individual table in the workshop classroom. Workshops will only allow up to 7 students per class, compared to their normal 12 students maximum. The Art Garage is also requiring a no contact directive for all of their instructors to follow. The Art Garage staff and instructors are required to wear masks and keep their social distance. All student participants are encouraged to do so as well. Plan for your child to work with a variety of materials during their session and dress them appropriately. We recommend play or grubby clothing, long shorts or pants, tennis shoes (flip flops are highly discouraged for safety purposes), and a personal apron or smock. After each workshop, students will be asked to pack up their supplies into their given tote bag, along with their name tag, and hang it on a hook for them to use following each day. At the end of the week, students are encouraged to take their tote bag of supplies home with them! Staff and instructors of The Art Garage will be persistent on regularly disinfecting all surfaces and objects while also promoting regular and thorough hand-washing by each and every student.
There will be a short break midway through each workshop. Please bring a small snack for this time if you'd like. The Art Garage will provide water. We will not have a communal snack/lunch area. If students wish to bring a snack and/or drink, they may do so and only keep at their desk.
Drop-off for Tuesday – Friday will involve a greeter from The Art Garage to direct each student to the correct workshop and check them in. Parents and/or guardians will NOT be allowed in the building at any time and can stay inside their vehicles. Parents and/or guardians can pick-up their students by pulling up to the building and waiting in line for their child. The Art Garage staff and volunteers will approach your car window, check your student release card, and notifying your child of their departure.
