This series of works is investigating the use of a canvas support as something other than a two-dimensional flat surface that paint is applied to. Treating the canvas like a shelf, rather than a flat surface, I am going against all art historical “rules” of what a painting can and should be. The objects placed on top become anthropomorphic, almost seeming to be in dialogue with one another. I’m posing questions on where the limits of painting should be placed and why painting has, in a lot of ways, stayed on the flat canvas support.
