We are very grateful for any donation to the Cedar Center Arts and its programs. Below you will find special areas that can be designated for your gift. For those who are able, a leader circle has been created and named after Theo van Gogh. Why? Read on… Theo van Gogh was the ultimate art patron. His older brother, Vincent - often depressed, tormented, unemployed - discovered painting in his late twenties, but was not able to create without financial and emotional support. Theo was a Parisian art dealer and supported Vincent’s talent and passion with money, art supplies, and letters of encouragement for the last 10 years of Vincent’s life. Theo did this on faith… never knowing if his older brother would ever be recognized or his creative brilliance. When Theo organized his first impressionist art exhibit in Paris, he was able to introduce Vincent to emerging artists Gauguin, Pissaro, Seurat, and Toulouse-Lautrec. Vincent van Gogh died on July 30, 1890, at the age of 37, of a self-inflicted gun shot wound. Theo died just six months later. As we admire works including “Irises,” “The Siesta,” or “A Starry Night,” we remember that it took two van Goghs to create such a collection of artistic genius: The painter and the patron. We hope you will consider becoming a patron to the visual, performing, and literary arts in our area.
